Ms. Shaw has returned to her hometown, the Alabama metropolis:  Slapout.  She graduated from Edgewood Academy in 1990, determined to live her dream and change the world. After graduating from AUBURN University in December 1993, with a bachelor’s degree in Legal Administration, she began working with a criminal contract attorney in Lee County, Alabama.

In 1996, a brief encounter with a fifteen-year-old child caused her to question her place in this world, and sent her on a journey, eventually living alongside the Amazon River, to find her life’s purpose. It was there, in the Peruvian village of Zungaracoocha, that she learned the true value of education and the joy of teaching.

After returning to the states and completing her Masters degree in Secondary Education, she began teaching high-school English in Elmore County, Alabama. For the next seventeen years, she worked in various schools and positions throughout the county. During her professional career she has also acquired a National Board Teacher Certification and an Education Specialist degree in Special Education, both of which have helped to shape her philosophy on education. She enjoyed a brief hiatus at Gulf Shores High School before returning to Holtville High School to teach Special Education.   Her classroom – both physically and emotionally -encourages students to investigate, analyze, question, and pursue inside an environment filled with mutual respect. She is best known for uncovering students’ strengths and motivating those who need an extra push. She provides encouragement to those who fear taking necessary risks, and she requires the individual best of every single student in class. Her professional goal is to peek one’s curiosity, encouraging him to seek knowledge and facilitating his ability to get there.
